STEP-FAMILY

Good morning Daily Vitamin subscribers. I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend.

Last Friday Maria Navarro posted a very interesting question in the forum for the Daily Vitamin about In-laws.

Today's DV reminds me of another word that could be interesting to review: Step, I mean as stepmother or stepfather, etc...... thanks, Maria Navarro

Today's word is the prefix: STEP-

Meaning: this prefix is added to family-name nouns to show a relationship through a second or later marriage.

Example 1:
When I was five, my mother and father were divorced. My mother was married a second time to a man with three children. Now I have a stepfather and three stepbrothers.

Example 2:
After my parents' divorce, my father remarried. His new wife, my new stepmother, has a daughter. Now I have a new stepsister.

Example 3:
My stepfather now has five stepchildren (two stepsons and three stepdaughters).

Those people who become your family through the marriage of your parents, are stepfamily. This prefex is expressed in Spanish with the ending -astro/a.

Example 3 (in Spanish):
Ahora mi padrastro tiene cinco hijastros (dos hijastros y tres hijastras).

If you have any questions about these family names, please post them in the Daily Vitamin Plus! forum section on our website. Thank you very much, Maria, for your participation.

I hope all of you have a peaceful day.
