TO MIND-3: meaning and examples

Good morning. Today we continue with meanings and uses of the verb to mind. Today's meaning of mind as a verb is: to take care of or look after somebody or something for a short time. This meaning is more common in UK English than in US English. Example 1 Daniella's mother usually minds the children for an hour after school. Example 2 Can you mind the phones while I go to the post office? (= Can you "look after" or answer the phones?) Example 3 The Bradbury family are looking for someone to mind their dog while they're away on holiday. Tomorrow will be the final day we look at the verb mind.
