Hello readers! Welcome to day four of our lessons about idioms with the word WATER.

Today we are looking at the phrasal verb TO WATER SOMETHING DOWN

Definition: to dilute or weaken. It could be physical dilution (imagine adding water to wine) or a metaphoric dilution (see example 2 below).

Example 1: This coffee is strong. I need to water it down

Example 2: He watered down his speech because he didn’t want everyone in the company to know how serious the financial problems are. 

This phrasal verb is transitive and separable
