Good morning everyone.

Bienvenido a la última Essential Weekly Vitamin de este curso académico 2010-11. Hoy quería aprovechar para daros algunas sugerencias de actividades para mantener el inglés en el verano.

Hace unos años, tuve un alumno que volvió de sus vacaciones con un nivel más alto que antes de verano. (Es una historia real.) Durante las vacaciones leyó en inglés, miró películas y programas en versión original y fue a Escocia con su familia (entre otras cosas). Es posible mejorar tu inglés en verano. Es cuestión de decidir y hacer un plan.

1) Revisar y repasar las más de 1.500 Daily Vitamins que hemos creado desde Octubre de 2003.
2) Escuchar al audio de cada Daily Vitamin para mejorar tu comprensión.
3) Realizar las monthly activities (actividades mensuales) que hemos creado. Son archivos PDF que puedes bajar e imprimir; te ayudarán a consolidar el contenido de cada mes.

LISTEN TO THE DAILY VITAMIN HERE:

Good morning everyone and welcome to the last Daily Vitamin until after the summer holidays (Monday, September 12th).

Today we finish our series of Daily Vitamins about expressions with the word LIGHT.

Today's expression islight at the end of the tunnel 

Meaning: something that shows you are nearly at the end of a long and difficult time or situation.

Example 1:
We are half way through July, so we can see light at the end of the tunnel. Just two more weeks until summer holidays!

Example 2:
Unemployment is still rising, but analysts assure us there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Tomorrow (Friday) we will send the last Essential Weekly Vitamin of the 2010-2011 academic year. We hope you will follow some of the English-learning tips that we have included in it.

Hello again everyone.

Today we continue our series of Daily Vitamins about expressions with the word LIGHT.

Today's expression isto cast /shed / throw light on something 

Meaning: to make a problem easier to understand; to make clear.

Example 1:
I hope that during the meeting the manager will be able to throw some light on the problems in the marketing department.

Example 2:
Recent academic research has shed more light on the causes of cancer.

Meaning: to make new information known to people.

Example 1:
This information has only just been brought to light. As the investigation advances, we will know more.

Example 2:
The President questioned whether the information about the covert war should be brought to light.

Good morning everyone.

This week will be the last week of Daily Vitamins until Monday, September 12.

We will finish the year with a series of four Daily Vitamins with expressions that use the English word LIGHT in them. On Friday, in the Essential Weekly Vitamin, we will give you some tips for keeping your English strong in the summer.

Today's expression is: to be or go out like a light (informal)

Meaning: to go to sleep very quickly.

Example 1:
I began to read the story to my son, but he was out like a light after 3 minutes. He must have been very tired.

Example 2:
She always goes out like a light when she travels by plane, but I can never seem to sleep when I fly.
