ADORE / DETEST: EXPRESSING LIKES & DIS: meaning and examples

Good morning / afternoon / evening everyone! Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin. I hope you are having a good day.

Today we are going to look at two more words that we use to express likes and dislikes. I hope you will not only learn these words, but use them in some future interactions in English. smiley

Today's 1st word is: adore

Meaning: to love and respect someone deeply, especially in a way that shows a lot of admiration or respect; or to like something very much.

Example 1: She absolutely adores her father.

Example 2: I adore chocolate.

Today's 2nd expression is: Detest

Meaning: to hate someone or something very much.

Example 3: He detests any kind of animal cruelty.

Example 4: Sadly, after more than 60 years of marriage, they have come to detest each other.

I encourage you to write your own original sentence with one or both of these words. You can post your sentences on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Twitter/X) and we will give you feedback about them ASAP.

Enjoy the rest of your day!
