ADVICE vs. ADVISE
ADVICE vs. ADVISE: meaning and examples
Today we look at two more words that have similar spellings, but different meanings and pronunication, that are often confused.
ADVICE: (noun) a recommendation about a particular action to take
ADVISE: (verb) to strongly recommend actions; to give advice
Example 1:
Thank you for the advice you gave me on how to reach my goals. It really helped motivate me!
Example 2:
I advise you to talk to your doctor before starting any kind of diet.
Example 3:
Sam: Listen, Shirley. Mr. Haines is a sensitive man so I advise you to be very diplomatic during the meeting.
Shirley: Sam, if I wanted your advice, I'd ask you. Don't worry; I know what I'm doing.
As you can see, the difference between the verb and the noun is an 's' or a 'c'!
Have a great day!
