ASAP (AS SOON AS POSSIBLE)
ASAP (AS SOON AS POSSIBLE): meaning and examples
Happy Friday, everyone. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin. I hope you are having a good day, and I also hope that you have had a great week.
Today we look at two final initialisms.
Today's 1st Initialism is: DIY
Meaning DIY: Do it yourself
We use this initialism to refer to crafts and home improvement.
Sentence 1: I watched a few DIY videos on YouTube and I built my own bookshelf over the weekend. It turned out really well. Better than IKEA.
Today's 2nd Initialism is: ASAP
Meaning ASAP: As soon as possible
We use this initialism a lot in the Daily Vitamins, when we encourage you to practice your English on our social media platforms.
ASAP is an interesting initialism because it has evolved into an acronym in some contexts. People often say A-SAP instead of A-S-A-P. So, although it is officially still an initialism, people often pronounce it as a sort of pseudo-acronym.
Sentence 2: Can you send me the report ASAP? The client was expecting it yesterday, so I'd like to send it today.
Sentence 3: Let’s grab lunch A-SAP—I’m super hungry!
👉 For some English practice, I challenge you to create your own original sentences with one or both of these initialisms. You can share your sentences on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Bluesky) and we will give you feedback about your writing ASAP.
I hope you have a great weekend. We'll be back on Monday with more lessons.
All the best!
