BODY EXPRESSIONS: LEG: meaning and examples
Good morning.
Today will be our last Daily Vitamin about expressions with body parts. Today we look at expressions with LEG (pierna).
Today's 1st expression is: Break a leg! (spoken)
It is used: by performers to wish each other good luck.
Example 1:
Angie: Wish me luck. I have my first concert tonight, and I'm very nervous.
Janet: You'll do fine. Break a leg!
Today's 2nd expression is: not have a leg to stand on
It means: to be in a position where you are unable to prove something or explain why something is logical.
Example 2:
Without written evidence, we don't have a leg to stand on.
Today's 3rd expression is: to leg it (informal)
It means: to run, especially in order to escape from somebody.
Example 3:
We saw the police coming and legged it down the road.
