BREAK-5: meaning and examples

Good morning everyone.

Today we continue our look at different uses of and expressions with the English word break. Today we look at two more meanings of the expression to break down. Yesterday we reviewed the following meanings:

Meaning 1: to stop working because of a fault (when speaking about machines or vehicles).

Meaning 2: to fail (when negotiating).

Today's expression with break is: to break down 

Meaning 3: to become very bad

Example 1:
Due to all the pressure at work, her health began to break down

Meaning 4: to lose control of your feelings and begin to cry.

Example 2
When she heard the news about her son, she broke down and cried.
