Today's expression is: to bring somebody or something down
Meaning: to make somebody lose power or to be defeated.
Example 1:
The recent scandal may bring down the current government.
Example 2:
The brutal dictatorship was brought down by a popular uprising.
Bring down can also mean:
-To lower or reduce something
-To land an aircraft
Example 3 (reduce):
Their objective is to bring down the prices of all of thier products in 2008.
Example 4 (land):
The pilot was able to bring the plane down in an open field.
