BY THE WAY
BY THE WAY: meaning and examples
Today we answer a question that we received from Gemma B. Here is Gemma's question:
I am Gemma and I follow your Daily vitamin every day. It is a very good idea. Could you help me with this expression? "By the way." I don't understand it.
Here is an example:
-Is Ana still with the company, by the way?
-She's not actually. She left last July.
Thank you in advance and thank you for your daily vitamin.
In April of 2009 we did a series of Daily Vitamins that looked at expressions with WAY. If you want, you can see all of those lessons in the Daily Vitamin section on our website.
Following is a piece of the Daily Vitamin from April 21st, 2009.
Today's expression is: by the way (spoken English)
Meaning: used to introduce a comment or question that is not directly related to what you have been talking about. In Spanish this is often expressed with por cierto...
Example 1:
Did you enjoy the party yesterday? By the way, what time did you get home?
Example 2:
By the way, what time is it?
