CAST: meaning and examples
Good morning!
Last week we explained some words to describe parts of the body (joints), as well as breaks and sprains. This brings us to today's Daily Vitamin. We're going to answer the following question from Sandra, one of our readers:
Me preguntaba cómo se suele decir en inglés "llevar yeso", o que te quiten el yeso? En referencia a cuando ha habido una fractura e inmovilizan la mano o la pierna. Sé que yeso es "cast", pero no sé si sería correcto "I have my arm on cast" o with cast?
Today's word is: (plaster) cast
Meaning: A firm cover made of plaster (yeso) that is used to immobilize a broken bone.
Example 1:
Allan had to wear a plaster cast on his leg for 6 weeks after he broke it skiing.
Here are some related verbs:
llevar yeso --> to have / wear a cast (on your arm/leg etc.)
ponerse el yeso --> to get / have a cast put on
quitarse el yeso --> to get / have a cast taken off
Example 2:
Melissa is wearing a cast on her arm and she would like everybody in the class to sign it. She'll get it taken off next month.
