CHRISTMAS SONGS-UNDERNEATH THE TREE
CHRISTMAS SONGS-UNDERNEATH THE TREE: meaning and examples
Hello everyone. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin. I hope you had a good weekend, and I hope your week has started off well.
This week is our last week of lessons for 2024, so I thought we'd do something fun. We will go over some not-so-traditional Christmas songs. These are songs that have been created more recently, often by pop artists. We have done other lessons about Christmas Songs, and I've included some examples below, in case you want to read and listen to them.
This is the first lesson in a series of lessons about Christmas songs from December 2012:

And this is the first lesson in a series of lessons about Christmas songs from December 2018:

Today we're going to look at the song Underneath the Tree, written by Kelly Clarkson in 2013.
There is an interesting phrase/expression in the song, that I wanted to point out: knocked me (right) off my feet
Meaning: To overwhelm someone emotionally; to infatuate someone or to make a very favorable impression on someone.
Example: When she told him that she loved him, she knocked him off his feet.
Here is the URL to access the video of the song, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NInjIfJ93TU, and below I have included the lyrics.
UNDERNEATH THE TREE (LYRICS)
You're here, where you should be
Snow is falling as the carollers sing
It just wasn't the same
Alone on Christmas day
Presents, what a beautiful sight
Don't mean a thing if you ain't holding me tight
You're all that I need
Underneath the tree
Tonight I'm gonna hold you close
Make sure that you know
I was lost before you
Christmas was cold and grey
Another holiday alone to celebrate
Then, one day, everything changed
You're all I need
Underneath the tree
You're here, where you should be
Snow is falling as the carollers sing
It just wasn't the same
Alone on Christmas day
Presents, what a beautiful sight
Don't mean a thing if you ain't holding me tight
You're all that I need
Underneath the tree
I found what I was looking for
A love that's meant for me
A heart that's mine completely
Knocked me right off my feet
And this year, I will fall
With no worries at all
'Cause you are near and everything's clear
You're all I need
Underneath the tree
You're here, where you should be
Snow is falling as the carollers sing
It just wasn't the same
Alone on Christmas day
Presents, what a beautiful sight
Don't mean a thing if you ain't holding me tight
You're all that I need
Underneath the tree
And then, one day, everything changed
You're all I need
Underneath the tree
You're here, where you should be
Snow is falling as the carollers sing
It just wasn't the same
Alone on Christmas day
Presents, what a beautiful sight
Don't mean a thing if you ain't holding me tight
You're all that I need
Underneath the tree
