CHRISTMAS VOCABULARY (MISTLETOE): meaning and examples

Good morning / afternoon / evening everyone. I hope you are having a good day.

Today we continue with our look at words related to the Christmas holiday season.

Today's word is: Mistletoe

DefinitionMistletoe is a leathery-leaved parasitic plant which grows on apple, oak, and other broadleaf trees, and bears white berries in winter. You can see a photo of Mistletoe at the following link: https://www.macmillandictionaryblog.com/mistletoe, and there is a bit more information about the plant.

Mistletoe is a common decoration during the Christmas holiday season and there is a tradition that if someone stands under the mistletoe, then you should kiss them.

Example 1: When I was a teenager, my girlfriend and I used the mistletoe that was hanging around the house as an excuse to kiss each other.

Example 2: John and Janet, from the marketing department, were kissing under the mistletoe at the office party.

Do you ever use mistletoe as a Christmas decoration at your home? Do you have any good mistletoe stories? If so, tell us your story on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Twitter) and start a conversation.

Enjoy the rest of your day!
