COLOUR EXPRESSIONS-BLUE: meaning and examples

Good morning. 

Today we continue our look at some typical English expressions that use colours in them.

Today's first expression isout of the blue

Meaning: unexpectedly; without warning.

Example 1:
His resignation came right out of the blue.

We can also use the expression a bolt from the blue.

Example 2:
Her dismissal came as a bolt from the blue.

Today's second expression is: to do something till you are blue in the face (informal)

Meaning: to try to do something as hard and as long as you possibly can but without success.

Example 3:
You can argue until you are blue in the face, but you won't change my mind!
