DESCRIBING HAIR AND SKIN COLOUR: meaning and examples
Good morning everyone,
Today we're going to look at how to talk about
colouring, that is... the
colour of a person's skin or the tone of their hair.
To talk about this, we generally use
adjectives like
dark or
fair, and then quantify them with
adverbs like
quite or
very.
Example 1
Dark-haired people often get
tanned easily.
Example 2
Linda needs to be careful when she is
sunbathing; she's
very fair-skinned and tends to go red and
burn (
quemarse)!
The
adjective pale (
pálido) is used in a similar way to
fair, but only when describing
skin, not
hair.
Example 3
Fiona looks like a Hollywood actress from the forties; she's really
pale-skinned with very
dark hair and she always wears scarlet lipstick (
pintalabios)!
There are many more words we can use to describe
people's hair and skin colour, so we will look at more of this vocabulary on another occasion.
