DON'T VS WON'T
DON'T vs WON'T: meaning and examples
I hope your weekend and holiday season was enjoyable! Today we answer a question from one of our Daily Vitamin readers. Josep has sent us two sentences with DON'T and WON'T and asks:
Which one is correct? Or are both sentences correct?
She won't be there --> CORRECT
This sentence uses won't (will not) to refer to a statement about the future.
This sentence is incorrect because the auxiliary verb do/don't (do not) is generally used to talk about habits and routines in the present.
(i) I don't like to go to the cinema if the film is dubbed.
However, do/don't cannot be used with the verb BE.
The possible correct versions of the incorrect sentence above are:
(ii) She isn't there (present)
(iii) She won't be there" (future).
I hope this answers your question, Josep.
I'd like to remind our other Daily Vitamin readers that you can always ask us a question or send us a suggestion for our Vitamins!
Have a nice day!
