Today we look at two more common metaphors. We hope that these metaphors will help you to make your English a little more interesting.
Today's 1st metaphor is: Drowning in paperwork
Meaning / Use: We use this metaphor to illustrate being overwhelmed by too much work or too many tasks.
Example 1: Ever since the new regulations have become law, we’ve been drowning in paperwork.
Example 2: Between client forms and tax documents, Jack felt like he was drowning in paperwork, with no relief in sight.
Today's 2nd metaphor is: A sea of troubles
Meaning / Use: This metaphor refers to a large number of problems or difficulties that seem to surround someone.
Example 3: After the merger, the company found itself in a sea of troubles: legal issues, unhappy clients, and internal chaos.
Example 4: The new CEO inherited a sea of troubles, but remained calm and focused on the long-term solutions.
