-EST / -FUL (SUFFIXES): meaning and examples

Good morning / afternoon / evening everyone, depending on when you are reading this. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin! I hope you are having a good day.

As you may know, this week we are looking at common SUFFIXES in English.

Today we look at two more very common English suffixes.

Today's 1st suffix is: -EST

Meaning -EST: The most (used to form the superlative form of adjectives).

Example 1
That is the tallest woman I have ever seen. She must be about 6 feet, 10 inches tall.

Today's 2nd suffix is: -FUL

Meaning -FUL: Full of.

Example 2:
The coaching sessions that I did with Anne were very helpful

So, the sessions with Anne were FULL OF help

Example 3:
My birthday was a joyful day. I had so much fun celebrating with friends and family.

I encourage you to write one or two sentences with some words that use these suffixes. You can add the -EST suffix to BIG, SMALL, BRIGHT, FAST, OLD and STRONG. Or you can add -FUL to words like BEAUTY, PEACE, POWER and HOPE.

You can post your sentences on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Twitter/X) and we will give you feedback about your sentences ASAP. I hope you will participate, since it can help you to improve your English.

We'll be back tomorrow with two more suffixes.

Enjoy the rest of your day!
