EXCUSES FOR NOT LEARNING ENGLISH-2
EXCUSES FOR NOT LEARNING ENGLISH-2: meaning and examples
I DON'T HAVE TIME
Another common excuse (justification) to explain why we don't reach our desired English level is that we don't have time.
Students often sign up for an English course but they don't attend class regularly and rarely (if ever) do anything with English between classes. If asked about their lack of dedication, they often say "I don't have time." This is another way of saying, "English is not enough of a priority for me."
It's true that most of us are VERY busy, but we generally do find time for the "easy" things, or those things that are important to us. We find time to watch the television, we find time to go out for drinks with friends, we find time to finish that report that our boss has asked for, we find time to file our tax return, we find time to pay our bills, etc. If you're not finding time for English, maybe it's not really a priority in your life.
Remember, learning a language takes hard work, dedication, patience and perseverance. Maybe it's not a question of time, but your unwillingness to do what it takes to learn. Stop fooling yourself: you are either willing to do what it takes to learn English or not. If you are not willing, don't worry; it's not a crime. But maybe you should consider dropping your English studies until English is a priority for you. That will free up time for other, more-important activities in your life, and will save you (and your company) money.
Having said that, I should remind you that with just five or ten minutes per day, you can improve and reach your objectives over time. We have VERY busy students in Ziggurat who progress quickly thanks to creating a daily habit with English; they don't study English, they make it a part of their daily lives.
Tomorrow we will analyse one more common excuse for not progressing in English. Until then, if you have any questions or comments about today's Daily Vitamin, you can post them by clicking on the "Add a Comment" button in the Daily Vitamin section on our website.
