EXPRESSING LIKES AND DISLIKES: FOND OF: meaning and examples
Hello everyone! Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin. I hope you had a great weekend, and I hope your week has begun well.
This week we are going to look at words and expressions that we use to express likes and dislikes. Hopefully, some of these expressions will be new to you, and you can amplify your vocabulary for this type of linguistic function.
Today's 1st expression is: to be fond of
Meaning: to like someone or something very much.
Example 1: She is very fond of her little dog.
Example 2: He is one of my dearest friends and I am very fond of him.
Today's 2nd expression is: Can't stand
Meaning: to hate someone or something.
Example 3: My paternal grandmother could not stand the sight of cats or dogs. She had a phobia.
I encourage you to write your own original sentence with one or both of these expressions. You can post your sentences on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Twitter/X) and we will give you feedback about them ASAP.
I hope you have a great day!
