EXPRESSING SURPRISE & DISBELIEF
EXPRESSING SURPRISE & DISBELIEF: meaning and examples
Hello everyone. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin! I hope you had a great weekend.
This week we are going to look at expressions that we use to show surprise or disbelief, when speaking. I think you will find these expressions very useful, and hopefully you will work them into your English vocabulary. Today's expressions are a bit informal.
Today's 1st expression is: No way!
Meaning: We use this expression to express disbelief or amazement.
Example 1: No way! You got tickets to the Bruce Springsteen concert? That's amazing! How did you get them?
Today's 2nd expression is: You're kidding!
Meaning: We use this expression when we think something is unbelievable. It's a synonym of no way.
Example 2: What? They won the lottery? You're kidding! How much did they win?
👉 Now it's your turn to practice. I encourage you to write 1 or 2 sentences using one or both of these expressions. You can post your sentences on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Twitter/X) and we will give you feedback about them ASAP.
Enjoy the rest of your day. We'll be back tomorrow with another lesson.
All the best!
