EXPRESSING UNCERTAINTY AND DOUBT: meaning and examples

Hello everyone. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin. I hope you had a good weekend, and I hope the week has started off well for you.

This week we are going to look at different ways that we express uncertainty and doubt in English. With these lessons, I don't want to create uncertainty and doubt in you, I just want you to know how to express yourself if you ever feel uncertain or doubtful. wink

Today's 1st phrase is: I’m not sure about that.

Example 1: I'm not sure about that approach; we might want to consider some alternatives.

Today's second phrase isIt’s hard to say.

Example 2:
Mark: Who do you think will win the Spanish football league this year?
Jack: It's hard to say what the outcome will be, but I want Barça to win.
Mark: That is not going to happen. Madrid is going to win the league this year.

👉 As always, I want to give you a chance to get some English practice; I encourage you to write your own original sentences with one or both of these phrases. You can share your sentence on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Bluesky) and we will give you feedback about your sentences ASAP. We appreciate your participation.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your day.
