EXPRESSIONS WITH 'BACK': meaning and examples

Good morning / afternoon / evening everybody. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin!

Yesterday we looked at the expressions go back and come back. Today we will focus on the meaning of back when it is combined with other verbs.

In general back means: to return or do something again.

Specific Expressions
⇒ To call back = to return someone's telephone call

Example 1
Can I call you back after dinner?

⇒ To give back = to return something to someone

Example 2
John borrowed my tennis racquet last week and he still hasn't given it back to me.

⇒ To put back = to return something to its place.

Example 3
Janet never puts the files back when she finishes reading them.
