Today's expression is: TO GET THE BOOT
Definition: To be fired.
Example 1: I got the boot from my office. They said they don't need so many workers during the wintertime.
Example 2: If you keep arriving late, you are going to get the boot.
Conversely, we can use the expression TO GIVE (SOMEONE) THE BOOT when we fire someone.
Example 3: I had to give an employee the boot today because he was late... AGAIN! I feel bad, but I can't have employees who are not on time.
