EXPRESSIONS WITH END (3): meaning and examples

Good morning everyone!

Today's expression is: DEAD END

It means: a street with no exit or way out. This expression is also used to refer to a situation which has no solution or way of progressing.

Example 1:
Don't take that road! It's a dead end. You need to turn left here instead.

Example 2:
The negotiations came to a dead end because both sides refused to cede their positions.

I certainly hope that you don't end up* in any dead-end situations today!

*end up is another end expression. We explained it in June of 2005 and April of 2008. You can go to our Daily Vitamin archive if you'd like to review this word.
