EXPRESSIONS WITH 'SAND': GO POUND SAND

Today we are looking at the expression GO POUND SAND. This idiom is more common in North American English. 

Definition 1: A pointless act or job. 

Example 1: I couldn't get the help that I needed at the city office. It felt like I was pounding sand. 

Definition 2: An expression meaning "go away" or "go do something pointless" (like pounding sand, which has no purpose).

Example 2: We asked repeatedly for help with the paperwork, but the employee basically just told us to go pound sand.
