EXPRESSIONS WITH 'SAND': SANDS OF TIME

Welcome back, everyone!

This week's theme is Expressions with the word SAND. Today's lesson is about the expression SANDS OF TIME. 

Definition: The passage of time (like sand passing through an hourglass). This expression is typically used in titles of books and movies or to speak poetically about life passing quickly. 

Example 1: There are many things I'd like to do before my sands of time run out. 

Example 2: The older I get, the more it seems like the sands of time are passing through the hourglass faster and faster. 

Here is a part of a beautiful poem, A Psalm of Life, by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, that uses this expression.

Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing, leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time
