EXPRESSIONS WITH SPRING (SPRING FOR): meaning and examples

It's day four of our expressions-with-Spring week. Today we are looking at another phrasal verb: TO SPRING FOR.
Definition: To buy something expensive.
Example 1: I sprung for the nicer car. I'm going to have it for the next 10 years, and I really love it, so I'm happy with the purchase.
Example 2: It's your birthday. Let's spring for some expensive champagne!
Example 3: I sprung for first-class tickets on our flight. It's our honeymoon and I wanted it to be special.

NOTE: In UK English it's also common to say TO SPLASH OUT (MONEY) ON SOMETHING instead of TO SPRING FOR SOMETHING.
