FALSE FRIEND: APPOINT: meaning and examples

Good morning.

Today's false friend is: Appoint

It means: to choose somebody for a job or position of responsibility.

Translation: nombrar

Example 1
The president appointed the new Secretary of State.

Example 2
Aaron: Who are you going to appoint as the new sales manager?
Sharon: Actually, Aaron, I was hoping that you would accept the job.

Appoint DOES NOT MEAN apuntar. Apuntar is to aim or to note down in English.

Example 3:
Jack has incredible aim. While playing darts he hit more than five bull's-eyes (dianas).
