FIGHT OR FLIGHT: meaning and examples

Good morning!

I hope you had a nice weekend. And for those Daily Vitamin readers who were able to take the long weekend (4 days!), I hope that it was especially relaxing.

Today we will continue our series with expressions that include the word 'OR'.

Today's expression is: fight or flight

It refers to: a survival instinct to stay and fight an enemy or to run away from the enemy (flight) if we think we cannot win the fight.

Example 1:
Psychologists believe that many of our reactions to modern-day situations are, in fact, a version of the fight or flight instinct that has evolved in living creatures over time.

Example 2:
Gerry
: Why did you walk away from that guy in the bar who insulted you?
Frank: Are you kidding me? Did you see how big he was? Fight or flight, man! I wasn't going to win that fight so I preferred the flight option!

Have a great day!
