FIT and FITNESS: meaning and examples
After the long summer months, the autumn is like a new year for many people. They return to work and their studies; they start a new hobby. Many people go (or go back!) to the gym after their summer rest. This week we will look at some words related to gym and exercise.
Today's words are: fit (adjective) and fitness (noun)
Fit means: to be in good physical condition.
Fitness means: the condition of being healthy and in good physical condition.
Example 1:
Karen was very fit because she played a lot of sports when she was younger. However, now she leads a sedentary lifestyle and does not do much exercise at all.
Example 2:
A good gym will assess your current level of fitness and help you plan an appropriate exercise program.
How fit are you? I know that I need to spend more time at the gym! Tomorrow we will look at some synonyms of these words.
