GIVE OR TAKE: meaning and examples
Good morning!
This week our Daily Vitamins are going to explain some English expressions that have the word 'OR' in the middle.
Today's expression is: give or take
It refers to: a quantity or amount of something that is within specified parameters.
Example 1:
I plan to arrive at the party around 9 pm, give or take 10 minutes. (= I might arrive at 10 minutes before 9 o'clock or 10 minutes after 9 o'clock.)
Example 2:
Brightsville has a population of around 10,000 people, give or take a few hundred. (= The population might be slightly more than 10,000 people, or slightly less.)
