GO EXPRESSIONS-3: meaning and examples

Hello again.

Today we look at another English expression with the verb GO.

Today's expression is: to go ahead

Meaning 1: to travel in front of other people in your group and arrive before they do.

Example 1:
My foot is really hurting me. Why don't you go ahead and let everyone know that I will arrive later since I can't walk very well.

Meaning 2: to happen or to be done.

Example 2:
Despite the protests by the neighbours, the construction of the new prison will go ahead as planned.

We can also use go ahead to indicate to someone that it is okay to do something; when we say go ahead we are giving them permission to proceed.

Example 3:
Chloe: May I start now?
Lisa: Yes, go ahead.
