GROOVE (EWV)-2: meaning and examples
Good morning.
Hoy acabamos nuestro repaso de usos y expresiones con groove.
La semana pasada estudiamos el sustantivo groove y el adjetivo groovy y hoy veremos groove como verbo, además de un par de expresiones.
MEANING 1: to Groove (colloquial): to dance well; to be very fashionable or cool.
(significado 1: bailar bien; estar muy de moda o ser guay.)
A modern version of this use of groove is to rock.
(Una versión moderna de este uso de groove es to rock.)
Example 1:
Look at John Travolta groove. He has the best moves on the dance floor.
(Mira a John Travolta bailar. Tiene los mejores movimientos de la pista.)
Example 2:
Sandra really grooves. She always has new ideas and she's so fun to be with.
Sandra really rocks. She always has new ideas and she's so fun to be with.
(Sandra es muy guay. Siempre tiene nuevas ideas y es divertido estar con ella.)
MEANING 2: To be in the Groove (colloquial): to be fashionable, modern or cool.
(Significado 2: estar de moda, ser moderno o guay.)
Example 3:
These days it's expensive to be in the groove with fashion because it changes constantly and you always have to renew your wardrobe.
(Hoy en día es muy caro ir a la última, ya que la moda cambia constantemente y siempre hay que estar renovando el armario.)
MEANING 3: To be in a Groove (colloquial): to begin to perform very well, especially in music and sports.
(Significado 3: empezar a actuar/rendir muy bien, sobre todo en el área de la música y los deportes.)
Example 4:
Real Madrid was really in a groove until yesterday's match, when they tied 1-1.
(El Real Madrid estaba en racha hasta el partido de ayer, cuando empataron 1-1.)
MEANING 4: To be stuck in a Groove (colloquial): to be stuck in a routine.
(Significado 4: estar atrapado en una rutina.)

I'm really stuck in a groove at work. I don't feel that I'm growing intellectually or learning new things.
