HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010!
HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010!: meaning and examples
Good morning everyone. Happy New Year!
So here we are...beginning another year again. Will 2010 be different than 2009 with respect to your English learning? Will you do more to advance your English in 2010 or less? Where will English be on your priority list? Before your favourite television programmes or after them? Are you growing tired of always "studying" to achieve that "magic" level that will allow you to function normally in English?
If you are a busy adult, then just about the only way to learn a language is to make it a part of your daily routine. English should be something you do each day, like brushing your teeth or eating breakfast. Find activities that you consider fun and do them in English. They don't have to be sophisticated or complicated exercises; any contact with English counts. Here are some examples:
-READ (magazines, newspapers, blogs, online newspapers, comics, novels, etc.)
-LISTEN (to music, to dialogues, to speeches on www.ted.com, to podcasts, etc.)
-WATCH (television, DVDs, online videos, films in the cinema, etc.)
-TALK (with yourself, to an intercambio partner, read aloud, do telephone classes, come to a ZigClub activity, etc.)
If you depend on others to learn English (an academy, a private teacher, etc.) your progress will always depend on others. However, if you realise that you are the only one that can guarantee your success with English, things suddenly become clearer and simpler. You don't have to wait for others to teach you English, you can create habits that will allow you to teach yourself English day by day...independently.
Over the years, we have given different ideas of simple activities that you can do in order to maintain and/or improve your English. Here are some examples that you will find in the Recursos Pedagógicos section of the ZigSpace on our website.
