HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR ENGLISH IN THE SUMMER (METHODOLOGY & PLAN)
HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR ENGLISH IN THE SUMMER (METHODOLOGY & PLAN): meaning and examples
Hello again everyone. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin. I hope you're having a great day.
Yesterday we talked about the importance of knowing where you are (your current English level) and where you want to go (the level of English that you would like to have). Today I want to talk about how to get to your objective; you have to take action. Summer is a time to relax, but that doesn't mean you can't improve your English while relaxing. However, if you don't create a plan and put it in your calendar, you probably won't be consistent in the summer.
We will talk more about this in today's (Thursday, July 13th) webinar, from 18:00 to 19:00. I'll provide tips and tools to help you improve your English during the summer holidays.

Taking Action: Create a Plan
I recommend finding 20-30 minutes each day to do something with English. I also recommend deciding when you are going to do those 20 or 30 minutes of practice. My favourite time is first thing in the morning. Put it in your calendar and commit to do it!
During your holidays, choose 2 or 3 of the following areas to focus on. You can't focus on everything, so just choose the areas that you are most interested in improving. The more you focus, the better.
1) Reading
2) Writing
3) Listening
4) Speaking
5) Grammar
6) Pronunciation
7) Vocabulary
Imagine you chose the following areas of focus:
1) Listening
2) Pronunciation
3) Vocabulary
Now, for each area, choose 1 or 2 activities that you can use to practice during your daily session. For example, perhaps you have a podcast that you like to listen to in English, which you can use as your listening activity. And maybe you can use the same podcast to practice your pronunciation, by listening and repeating parts of the podcast. The idea is to organize what you are going to do very thoroughly, so that you will not waste time when it's time for your study session. Set everything up before the session and make it easy.
If you set up a plan, like I have suggested above, you will have a much higher chance of actually doing something with English during your holidays. Have fun with this idea, but be strict with yourself to create consistency. If you miss a day, that's okay, but don't miss more than one day in a row. And if you don't feel like doing the planned activity, do something else. Be flexible with yourself, but do something with English every day, even if it's only 5 minutes.
If you have any questions, let me know. And I hope to see you in the webinar this afternoon.
All the best!
