I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! (EXPRESSING SURPRISE)
I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! (EXPRESSING SURPRI: meaning and examples
Happy Wednesday everyone. Welcome back to the Daily Vitamin. I hope you are having a good week, and I hope you are having a good day!
Today, once again, we are looking at two informal conversational expressions that we use to show surprise or disbelief. You may already be familiar with some of the expressions we present this week, but our hope is that you work them into your English conversation. They all have a similar effect, so just choose two or three that you like and start using them. Don't just learn them, use them.
Today's 1st expression is: I can't believe it!
Meaning: We use this expression to show extreme surprise or disbelief.
Example 1: I can't believe it! Despite all the injured players, they managed to win the championship.
Today's 2nd expression is: Are you for real?
Meaning: Yet another way to express disbelief.
Example 2: Are you for real? You were really chosen for the Olympic cycling team? Congratulations! That's amazing!
👉 Are you for real? Do you really want to improve your English? Then I encourage you to write one or two sentences using one or both of these expressions in order to get some extra practice. You can post your sentences on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Twitter/X) and we will give you feedback about them ASAP.
Enjoy the rest of your day.
All the best!
