IDIOMS FOR BEING THANKFUL (THANK YOU VERY MUCH)
IDIOMS FOR BEING THANKFUL (THANK YOU VERY MUCH): meaning and examples
Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Today is the fourth day of our Idioms for Being Thankful theme! Today we are looking at one that is a little silly: THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
I'm sure you've heard this expression before, but we are looking at a different use today. Normally, THANK YOU VERY MUCH means exactly what it seems: that you express gratitude to someone. However, there is also a sarcastic use for this expression.
Definition: A statement at the end of a sentence that is used for emphasis, usually when there is no reason for the speaker to say thank you.
Example 1: I'll just clean the house myself then, thank you very much.
Example 2: A lot of my friends had fun in college, but not me. I worked two jobs and paid for my own tuition, thank you very much.
That's all for today. Thank you for reading!
