IDIOMS WITH 'JOB': BETWEEN JOBS: meaning and examples

Hello, everyone! How's your week going?

Our theme for the week is Idioms with the word JOB. Today we are concentrating on the phrase BETWEEN JOBS.

Definition: A euphemism for "unemployed."

NOTE: A euphemism is a word or phrase used in place of another. We use euphemisms when the real word is too harsh or critical. In this case, it’s "lighter" and more optimistic to say that you are "between jobs" because this suggests that another job is coming. Saying "I don't have a job" or "He's unemployed" sounds more negative.

Example 1: My son is between jobs right now.

Example 2: I met a guy and we are going on a date. He's an engineer, but he's between jobs right now.

That's all for today. Thank you for reading!
