IDIOMS WITH 'LETTER': FOUR-LETTER WORD: meaning and examples

Hello, everyone! We have completed the 2020 Alphabet Game, but we aren't finished with Daily Vitamin lessons for this academic year just yet. We have three more weeks of lessons for you before we go on summer break.

This week's theme is Idioms with the word "letter" in them. We are beginning with the expression: FOUR-LETTER WORD.

Definition: A phrase to describe a word considered to be a swear word or a word for something vulgar (like sexual organs or bodily excretions).

Example 1: I can think of a four-letter word to describe what I think about him.

Example 2: She used some four-letter words to describe how terrible the meal was.

This is an interesting expression because it's true that many "bad" words in the English language have four letters! Some languages use a similar expression and refer to three-letter or five-letter words.

That's all for today. Thanks for reading!
