I'M SPEECHLESS (EXPRESSING SURPRISE & : meaning and examples

Happy Friday everyone and welcome back to the Daily Vitamin. Today is Friday the 13th, but we are not going to speak about Friday the 13th. If you'd like to know more about Friday the 13th, you can see the following Daily Vitamin from May 2005 about the topic: https://www.ziggurat.es/lecciones-ingles/friday-the-13th/356/

Today we are going to look at one final pair of expressions to express surprise and disbelief.

Today's 1st expression is: No freaking way!

Meaning: This is a more intense version of "No way!" for informal contexts.

Example 1: No freaking way! Are you sure that's true? That can't be true.

Today's 2nd expression is: I'm speechless!

Meaning: We use this phrase when something is so surprising that we're at a loss for words. We don't know what to say.

Example 2I'm speechless! I didn't expect this at all. I'm happy you got the new job, but I'm sorry to be losing you.

👉 Are you speechless or are you going to write one or two sentences using one or both of these expressions in order to get some extra practice? I hope you do "speakl". You can post your sentences on one of our social media sites (Facebook or Twitter/X) and we will give you feedback about them as soon as we can.

I hope you have a great day and an excellent weekend. We'll be back next week with the last lessons of the year.

All the best!
