IMPROVE: meaning and examples

Today's word is: Improve
Meaning: to become better than before; to make something or somebody better than before. (Spanish = mejorar)
Example 1:
I hope that soon the economy will improve.
Example 2:
If you want to improve your English, I don't recommend using a traditional academy.
We also use the expression to improve on/upon something to mean to achieve or produce something that is better quality than something else.
Example 3:
The sales department has clearly improved on last year's sales figures.
Example 4:
Is it possible to improve upon this? I don't think so. You've done an excellent job.
