IN THE LONG RUN: meaning and examples

Today's expression is: in the long run or in the long term.

It means: not immediately or right away, but at some time in the future.

Example 1:
If we cut jobs now, it could be more expensive in the long run since our production and our profits will go down; we'll also have to hire freelance workers, which is more expensive.

Example 2:
Although many complained about the change to the Euro, most economists agree that it has been beneficial for Catalonia and the rest of Spain in the long run.
