INITIALISMS: ETA

This week we are going to look at a type of abbreviation that is called an initialism.

Definition initialism: An initialism is a type of abbreviation where the first letters of a phrase are used, and each letter is pronounced separately, one-by-one, rather than forming a new word.

Today's 1st Initialism is: RIP

Meaning RIP: Rest in Peace

Sentence 1: We were saddened to hear about the passing of our former colleague. RIP, Darrel.

Today's 2nd Initialism is: ETA

Meaning ETA: Estimated Time of Arrival

Sentence 2: My flight’s ETA has been delayed due to bad weather; so, I'm going to arrive later than planned.
