KNOWLEDGE-RELATED VOCABULARY: LEARNED
KNOWLEDGE-RELATED VOCABULARY: LEARNED: meaning and examples
Hello and welcome back! How's your Friday going?
If you've read any of this week's lessons, then you know that our theme has been Knowledge-Related Vocabulary. Today's lesson might look like a word you know, but perhaps you don't know it with the use (and pronunciation) we focus on today. The word is the adjective LEARNED.
Definition: A way of describing someone who has studied for a long time and possesses a lot of knowledge about something.
NOTE: this is a two-syllable word, not a one-syllable word, like the past participle of the verb TO LEARN (LEARNED).
Example 1: She was my favourite professor: not just because she was so learned, but because she was also passionate and funny.
Example 2: The company has hired a consultant who is learned when it comes to global manufacturing practices.
Example 3: Jack's dream was to become a learned biologist. He received his Ph.D. in Marine Science and now conducts research in Hawaii.
Example 4: I had no idea your grandfather was so learned.
This concludes our lessons for the week. I hope you have a wonderful weekend! We will see you on Monday with more lessons.
