LIKE vs. AS (3): meaning and examples
Today we will finish our series on LIKE vs. AS with another example of how to use these words.
Today's structure is: AS noun
We use AS in this structure to state the job/role/function of a person or thing.
Example 1
I work as an English teacher. My husband works as a mechanic.
Example 2
I am using this bowl as a flower pot.
Example 3
The company is employing James as a spokesperson for this campaign.
BE CAREFUL! Don't confuse LIKE in the above sentences. LIKE has the meaning of 'similar to' and it is used for comparison.
Example 4
You work like a dog! You deserve to take a holiday and relax.
