Good morning. I hope all of you are having a great day.

Yesterday we looked at the verb to live (pronounced /lIv/, which rhymes with give). However, I also mentioned that live can also be an adjective or an adverb:

The pronunciation of the adjective/adverb live is /LaIv/ (which rhymes with arrive).

ADJECTIVE
As an adjective, live has different but very related meanings.

Meaning 1: living and not dead.

Example 1:
Please don't give me any live plants for my birthday. I travel a lot, so they're sure to die. A nice dried flower arrangement would be better.

Meaning 2: a concert or theatre play or some other kind of show that is performed in front of an audience; live entertainment ("en vivo")

Example 2:
Some rock-n-roll groups are much better live than recorded; that's why I prefer to see my favourite bands live, in concert.

Tomorrow we will look at live as an adverb.
