LOL (LAUGHING OUT LOUD)

Hello everyone and welcome back to the Daily Vitamin. I hope you are having a good day. 

As you know, this week we are looking at a type of abbreviation that is called an initialism. Unlike an acronym, where we pronounce it as a word (such as NATO), with an initialism we pronounce each letter separately. For Chief Executive Officer we say C-E-O, letter per letter.

Today's initialisms tend to be used more in writing than in speaking. 

Today's 1st Initialism is: LOL

Meaning LOL: laughing out loud

Sentence 1: That post was hilarious, Mary. LOL! 

Today's 2nd Initialism is: N/A

Meaning N/A: not applicable

Sentence 2: On the form you should choose the number of children that you have. If you don't have any children, just mark N/A, for "not applicable."
