LYRICS OR LETTERS?
LYRICS or LETTERS?: meaning and examples
How would you complete the following sentence?
Do you know the __________ to the Rolling Stone's song "Satisfaction?"
a) letters
b) lyrics
Hopefully you chose (b). In English the words of a song are called lyrics and not letters. Letters are things you send to people in the mail, or the symbols that you use to spell words (a, b, c, d, e, f, etc.).
The difference is very simple, but nonetheless this false friend often causes confusion amongst English students.
